Overview
HPC Pondr is an educational app that helps computer science students grasp High-Performance Computing (HPC) concepts through quizzes and trivia. To enhance engagement and knowledge retention, we introduced a gamified reward system where users earn “fish food” for correct answers, allowing them to expand a virtual pond and collect unique fish.
As the graphic/visual designer, I illustrated the quiz backgrounds, in which users progress from the bottom of the ocean upwards as they advance, and designed a variety of collectible fish to enhance their appeal as rewards.
This approach transformed studying into an interactive experience, with a post-launch survey showing that over 70% of users found the app made learning HPC concepts easier and more enjoyable.
